Surrey PCT has become a partner in the 'England on the MEND' portfolio which will enable 25 MEND programmes to be delivered in Surrey over the next two years the first of which commenced in September 2007.

- To enable overweight children to increase their physical activity levels
What we are doing
We are one of many sites delivering child weight management programmes across England. We vary from the majority of sites in that we have formed a partnership to deliver programmes across the majority of the county
We chose this method because...
MEND Central have/are continuing to undertake extensive research on the MEND programme. The opportunity to apply to be part of the Big Lottery funded Wellbeing portfolio enabled us to deliver child weight management programmes in Surrey.

- Interventions for childhood overweight and obesity should address lifestyle within the family and in social settings
Surrey Obesity Strategy (2007) recommends the implementation of programmes within the family setting to prevent and manage obesity
Surrey LAA includes NI 56 target to decrease the prevalence of obesity among primary school children in Y6
